'Babies don't come with instructions' is a common cliche.
But now they do.
The Baby Owner's Manual is a fun and easy to read book with instructions on what you need to do to take care of your infant.
Part of what makes this book fun is that it is formatted like a typical owner's manual for your toaster, car, or microwave oven, etc. While this may seem silly, I think this kind of fun format will lessen the anxiety and stress of many parents, especially first time parents and dads, as they learn to take care of their baby and develop their parenting skills.
Although not a comprehensive book, the baby owner's manual covers all of the basics very well, including preparing your nursery, deciding whether to breast or bottle feed, following your baby's growth and development, childproofing the house, starting solid foods and caring for common medical problems, like croup, gas, and pink eye.
The illustrations or schematic diagrams in the book are also very well designed. These diagrams show how to swaddle a baby, change a diaper, pick up a baby, and take a temperature.
The baby owner's manual may be too simplistic for more expert parents, but most others will enjoy this book and find it much less overwhelming than other books for new babies. And many parents will enjoy the step by step instructions on each topic.
This book would also make a great gift to bring to a baby shower or to the hospital when a baby is born.
I look forward to the next edition when it comes time to 'upgrade' to a toddler model.
