Among the recommendations that have changed in recent years;

  • infants should sleep on their backs to prevent SIDS

  • you should delay giving solids until a child is 4-6 months old

  • children should stay in car seats until they are about 80 pounds and 4 feet 9 inches tall

  • you should limit fruit juice to 4-6 ounces a day for younger children

Where do you go for advice? There are so many sources, including television, parenting magazines, family, friends, and of course, your own Pediatrician.

This regular column will try to offer parenting advice from the perspective of a Pediatrician, with the goal of giving you the information you need to make informed medical and parenting decisions to keep your children healthy, happy and safe.

The most current column is on Should Your Kids Get a Flu Shot.
