Adolescent Well Child Visits

| You will be making less frequent visits to your Pediatrician now that your child is older, but his growth and development will still be closely monitored. Checkups are generally done every two years now. A description of these visits are provided below. Remember to write down any questions you may have for your doctor before your teenagers check ups. |

Fourteen Years
|
- Examination of your adolescent's growth and development.
- Screening height, weight and blood pressure.
- Review of school performance.
- Counseling for injury prevention, substance use, sexual behavior, dental health, diet and exercise.
- Immunizations: Td and HepB (if not already given).
- Screening test: scoliosis, vision and hearing test (if necessary).

Sixteen Years
|
- Examination of your adolescent's growth and development.
- Screening height, weight and blood pressure.
- Review of school performance, graduation plans.
- Counseling for injury prevention (including driving safety), substance use, sexual behavior, dental health, diet and exercise.
- Immunizations: Td and HepB (if not already given). Meningococcal disease is a serious illness, causing bacterial meningitis and blood infections. College freshmen, particularly those who live in dormitories, have a slightly increased risk of getting meningococcal disease and should strongly consider receiving the meningococcal vaccine to be protected.
